-- Additional high availability software support and twice the processing performance of existing models --
Tokyo, July 29, 2010 - NEC Corporation (NEC; TSE: 6701) today announced the sales launch of its new NEC Express5800/ft series (*1) VMware models, the mid-range NEC Express5800/R320a-M4 and entry level NEC Express5800/R320a-E4. The two servers support VMware(R) vSphere(TM) 4 (*2), the latest virtualization infrastructure of VMware, Inc.
The new models are first in the series to support both VMware and NEC EXPRESSCLUSTER(R) high availability software to minimize system downtime. The software offers high availability clustering features for guest operating systems on the new fault tolerant platform and enables automatic failover in case one of the operating systems fails. In addition to superior hardware fault tolerance provided by every NEC FT server, with EXPRESSCLUSTER(R), the new models can also reduce the risk of software failures to achieve an even higher level of availability of the entire system.
Furthermore, the new models deliver significant enhancements from the existing models, including doubled processing performance by adopting the latest Intel(R) Xeon(R) 5500 series processors (*3), and four times greater main memory capacity of a maximum of 96GB (*4). The scalability of both memory and hard disk drives, which helps prevent bottlenecks in virtual server consolidation, has been extensively enhanced to make NEC FT servers ideal for larger virtualized systems.
The NEC Express5800/R320a-M4 and R320a-E4 are initially released in Japan and North America, and to be followed by the Asia Pacific and EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) markets.
